Overview
• Meeting point / pickup: From your hotel in downtown Cusco.
• Cusco Cathedral: Built over the foundations of the palace of Inca Wiracocha, it houses Cusco School colonial paintings, a historically significant Black Christ, and architectural details that blend Spanish baroque with Andean symbolism.
• Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun): Once the empire's most important temple, formerly sheathed in gold. Its original walls now share space with the Santo Domingo church, built on top after the conquest — a physical layering that sums up colonial Cusco's history.
• Sacsayhuamán: A ceremonial fortress on the city's outskirts, built from stone blocks weighing up to 200 tons, fitted together without mortar. From here, a panoramic view of Cusco opens up between the mountains.
• Q'enqo: A sanctuary carved directly into limestone bedrock, used for rituals and possibly ceremonial mummification.
• Puka Pukara: A former checkpoint and resting station on the route toward the Sacred Valley.
• Tambomachay: Known as the "Inca's Bath," a system of ceremonial channels and fountains that still carries its original water flow today.
• Return: Transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.

Why Choose This Tour with AndeanDiscovery.pe?
Our guides don't recite dates — they give context. They explain why Sacsayhuamán was built with that specific assembly technique, what gold represented in Inca cosmology, and how colonial architecture was deliberately layered over sacred temples as a strategy of symbolic conquest. We schedule around the mid-morning crowds that flood Sacsayhuamán, so you walk the fortress with more room to move and better light for photos.
