This is a budget-friendly, less conventional option that avoids the train. It’s typically a one- or two-day trip, traveling by car or minivan from Cusco to Hidroelectrica (about 6-7 hours), followed by a 2-3 hour walk along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes. The next day, you visit Machu Picchu and return the same way.
